Yorkville, in Toronto was subdivided in 1930 by Joseph Bloor and Sheriff William Botsford Jarivs who also founded the Rosedale Real Estate Neighbourhood. Yorkville was named after the City of York and was became a Village in 1853. It later was incorporated into the City of Toronto.
Yorkville was put on the map in the 1960's when it became known as a "Hippie Haven", and then became known as a high end shopping
Mecca in the 1980's. Today Yorkville is an upscale enclave that

Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, Antique Shops and Art Galleries. The original Yorkville Fire Hall is still located at 34 Yorkville Avenue and the Yorkville Library is at 22 Yorkville. North of Yorkville is Ramsden Park which has 4 Tennis Courts, an Artificial Ice Rink, Playground and Wading Pool.
